Reflux

Spitting up and/or regurgitation are normal in some infants due to immature development of the sphincter at the top of the stomach. Usually this will resolve itself with in the first year of life. These symptoms can also occur from structural imbalances that can result from the birth process.

Here are some things that you can do:

    • Avoid overfeeding and burp a couple of times during each feeding.
    • Feed in the semi-upright position.
    • Do not lay your baby flat for 30-45 minutes after feeding.
    • Nursing mothers can eliminate dairy, citrus, caffeine, spices and chocolate.
    • Try changing formulas if using one with dairy (or soy) and/or high fructose corn syrup.
    • Massage between your baby’s shoulder blades and at the base of their head.
    • Essential oils (lavender and chamomile) can be used to decrease symptoms, improve digestion and enhance calm behavior.
    • Chiropractic and cranial adjustments to balance structure and improve function.
